Expanded Short Courses and Workshops...

TMS has expanded its traditional at-meeting continuing education offerings to be held in conjunction with the 2009 Annual Meeting.
At TMS 2009, three short courses, a tutorial, and four workshops will be presented. Cost, length, dates and times, and format vary for each course. The deadline to register for the continuing education offerings is January 16. This year’s scheduled offerings are:
- Alumina Refinery Fundamentals and Practice, a one-day short course on alumina refining processes.
- Aluminum Metal Treatment, a one-day course that features instructors from Consultant, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Alcoa, Rio Tinto Alcan, and Sintef Oslo.
- Neutron and Synchrotron Scattering 101 for Structural Materials Researchers, a one-day tutorial that is part of the National Science Foundation’s Advanced Neutron Scattering Network for Education and Research (ANSWER) series.
The first 25 students to register receive free admission.
- Direct Chill and Twin Roll Casting of Magnesium: Principles and Practice, a one-day workshop.
- Furnace Systems and Technology Workshop, presented on three days this workshop consists of 20 topic sessions and 16 presenting companies.
- Green Materials and Processes for Managing Electronic Waste
- Greenhouse Gas Emissions, a one-day course on greenhouse gas emissions and their reduction.
- Lead-Free Solders Workshop
