TMS Members to Receive Awards and Honors
Ray Peterson to be Installed as the 2009 TMS President

More than 40 TMS members will be honored for their achievements in materials science and engineering at the 138th TMS & AIME Awards Presentation and Banquet on the evening of Tuesday, February 17. The annual Society and Division awards will be presented at this time.

Of the distinguished members, five will receive the highest honor bestowed by TMS and be inducted into the 2009 honorary class of Fellow. Those members are William W. Gerberich of the University of Minnesota, Douglas A. Granger of Gras Inc., Michael Miller of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tresa M. Pollock of the University of Michigan, and Hong Yong Sohn of the University of Utah.

In addition, other awards including the William Hume-Rothery Award, the Champion H. Mathewson Award, the Early Career Faculty Fellow Award, and the Light Metals Award will be presented.

The awards presentation and banquet also includes the installation of the 2009 TMS President Ray Peterson. He is the technology director of Aleris International Inc. in Rockwood, Tennessee. Peterson will also receive the Light Metals Distinguished Service Award for devoting his time to TMS activities, publishing many technical papers in light metals, and for serving as the Cast Shop Subject, Aluminum Committee, and LMD chairs.
