TMS 2009 Short Course: Direct Chill and Twin Roll Casting of Magnesium Principles and Practice Course

The registration deadline is approaching for a short course in direct chill and twin roll casting of magnesium to be offered Sunday, February 15.
The class is being offered for professional and technical representatives in the magnesium industry with interest in wrought alloy production and researchers developing new casting technology or alloys. Registration must be submitted by January 16.
Direct Chill and Twin Roll Casting of Magnesium: Principles and Practice Course, explores topics such as wrought alloys and products produced by continuous casting, heat flow and solidification including measurement methods, mathematical modeling and water cooling, and twin roll casting problems and defects.
The short course will be taught by John Grandfield, chair of the Australasian Aluminum Casthouse Technology Conference, and Dag Mortesen, section head of materials processing at the Institute for Energy Technology in Norway. Together, both Grandfield and Mortensen have nearly 50 years experience in light metals production.
