The mission of the Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute (JNC) is to develop advanced technology required to establish the complete nuclear fuel cycle, including the disposal of high-level radioactive waste. In 2005, JNC merged with the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute to form the Japan Atomic Energy Agency. This web site offers a general introduction to measures being taken for the safe treatment and disposal of high-level radioactive waste in Japan. A link to the web site of the Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory, as well as access to information on other research and development projects, is also provided.
