Based in Vienna, Austria, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was set up as the world´s "Atoms for Peace" organization in 1957 within the United Nations family. Its current work is focused in three areas: safety and security; science and technology; and safeguards and verification. Its web site offers access to numerous publications and resources available on nuclear waste disposal issues and projects from around the world.
