Bauer oversees economic and technology systems analysis. She is responsible for DOE’s Critical Materials Strategy. Before joining DOE, she led the extramural sustainability research program at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, focusing on topics such as green manufacturing, green building, transportation, and land use planning. She is one of the principal authors of U.S. EPA’s research strategy for sustainability. Previously, she led the Center for Climate Change and Environmental Forecasting at the U.S. Department of Transportation. She has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from UC Berkeley
