This report by the International Aluminium Institute aimed to develop an understanding of the positive contributions that aluminum makes to the environment and economy of the world. This report was prepared in the same way as the earlier 2003 document, ie. collecting Life Cycle Inventory data (raw materials and energy use, air and water emissions and solid waste generated) associated with producing primary ingot from bauxite ore. This report demonstrates an increased production output of 30% between 2000 and 2005 and a redution in electricity consumption in electrolysis, PFC air emissions, and spent pot lining generation.
