In the March issue of JOM we meet TMS member Laura Rea, a C4ISR Portfolio Manager for the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory Materials and Manufacturing Directorate in Dayton, Ohio. But it is not Rea's accomplishments inside of work that has gained her the spotlight; it is what she does outside of the office.

In 2007, Rea was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma-the most common form of breast cancer. Already involved with the local theater, she turned to cast members and crew for support. Today, she lends her shoulder as she provides support for other women diagnosed with cancer. Her support comes in the form of educating the women about body fat reduction as an alternative to estrogen-blocking medications or hormonal chemotherapy.

Rea's story can be found in the Member News Section of the March issue of JOM. Below are photos of her involved in several theater productions and running the Columbus Marathon. Rea began training to run in the marathon while undergoing radiation. She was able to complete it with the support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society "Team in Training" program.
