This Quicktime animation of solidification of solid crystals from a liquid demonstrates the development of grain structure. An accompanying video of the actual formation of spherulites in a polymer is also included.

The VIMS web resource offers a detailed description of an interactive and graphics-based sophomore level introductory materials science course available on CD-ROM. Links to sample animated graphics, videos, and worked problems are provided throughout the description. The course was developed as an initiative of the Southeastern University and College Coalition for Engineering Education (SUCCEED).
