In this segment, Dr. McMahon discusses why aluminum is used for bike frames and why stainless steel is used for wheel spokes. Dr. Charles McMahon is a professor emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania. He has taught a course on Structural Materials that used the bicycle as a conceptual framework. The complete video series is available on this site. A written transcript of the video is also presented.
