This video is one segment from the series "How the Parts of a Bicycle Function: Chains, Gears & Ball Bearings." In this segment, Dr. McMahon discusses why aluminum is used for bike frames and why stainless steel is used for wheel spokes. Dr. Charles McMahon is a professor emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania. He has taught a course on Structural Materials that used the bicycle as a conceptual framework.
