This video describes the glass fiber structure of the sea organism, glass sponge. The glass sponge is comprised of glass cages, naturally making use of fiber-reinforced cements, fiber bundling, and architectural support elements to attain its strength. Scientists at Bell Labs and Lucent Technologies are studying the glass sponge to explore possibilities for strengthening fragile materials and for making glass at relatively low temperatures.
