The primary objective of this site is to help students understand the close interdependencies between the different stages of steel production and to show how the final properties can be controlled through composition, processing and microstructure. This is achieved by looking at a number of different applications and having the user: consider the key properties required for each application; identify which stage in the production route these properties are determined, and; understand the relevant concepts through interactive simulations. Case studies concerning steel processing and applications are also included.

“A nicely done site describing various stages of steel production, with little exercises to help reinforce learning along the way. Optimized for older browsers and media players, which is helpful. Clearly a lot of work went into this site. Only downside is I'd say a lot of pages are "minimalist" in design, losing some opportunities to present a lot more information per page, and requiring a lot more clicks to get through the site than some others.” Adam Powell, Veryst
