This primer describes the basic process for producing superalloy components of complex shape, such as turbine blades and nozzle guide vanes. The basic steps, which include making a wax model, preparing the ceramic mold and casting of the superalloy, are highlighted. The use of directional solidification to improve creep performance is also described.
