The NIMS/High Temperature Materials Center is conducting the High Temperature Materials 21 (HTM21) Project which aims to develop materials to improve the thermal efficiency of power generation systems and advanced aeroengines. In Phase 1 (1999-2005) single crystal superalloys with temperature capabilites of 1100°C were developed. The goal for Phase 2 is to develop single crystal, nickel based superalloys and coatings with capabilities to 1150°C. Another goal is to develop the next generation NI-Co base turbine disc alloys for use up to 750°C.
