This PowerPoint presentation on the engineering of superalloys begins with a discussion of the operating conditions inside gas turbine engines and leads into a review of the evolution of Ni-based superalloy turbine blades. Historical and modern alloy development programs are highlighted. Processing to produce equiaxed crystal structures, directionally solidified structures and single crystal structures is described. Blade cooling, coatings and novel processing are also discussed.
