The U.S. NRC and DOE co-sponsored a three-day workshop on U.S. Nuclear Power Plant Life Extension Research and Development in order to gain a better understanding from stakeholders and the scientific community on needed research to support continued operation of current LWRs beyond a 60-year lifetime.
The goals of this workshop were to: Identify research topics that address technology barriers and challenges that may produce disruptive conditions to long term operations of LWRs Identify a set of prioritized research pathways Identify cross-cutting research topics that may impact long-term LWR operation Identify significant research challenges that would significantly improve long-term LWR operations Identify appropriate roles and responsibilities for industry, DOE, and NRC in a collaborative research agenda that will ensure safe, long-term LWR operation This three-day R&D workshop will be held on February 19-21, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda, Maryland.
