This is an extensive presentation providing background information on magnesium’s inherent properties and how it is produced. Information on the effects of various alloying elements on properties is included. Magnesium usage, growth potential and applications are illustrated. Microstructure, diecastability and creep in Mg-Al, Mg-Al-Si, Mg-Al-RE, Mg-Al-Ca, Mg-Zn-Al-Ca and experimental alloys are described. The presentation ends with a discussion of future application development.
