Abstract: This article presents the activities of an education project supported by the National Science Foundation. The project aims to improve the student learning experience and educator teaching experience in two core components of the materials science and engineering curriculum, thermodynamics and kinetics, through integration of fundamental principles and advanced computational approaches. The teaching activities for the duration of the project are presented in this article along with the evaluation results using state-of-the-art assessment methods. Potential future improvements are also discussed.
