The TMS 2013 Annual Meeting & Exhibition offers students invaluable opportunities to learn more about the materials profession, network with professionals and peers, and compete in lucrative, resume-building competitions.

This section of the site can show you how to make the most of your experience at TMS2013 by applying for student competitions and planning to attend student-specific events and activities at the conference
STUDENT COMPETITIONS

The following competitions are open to undergraduate and graduate students at the TMS 2013 Annual Meeting & Exhibition.

TMS2013 Materials Bowl
Material Advantage chapters are invited to participate in the Materials Bowl, held each year at the TMS Annual Meeting. Chapters select a team of two-to-four chapter members to represent their school in a materials-themed knowledge and trivia competition. The team may consist of a mix of undergraduates with up to two graduate students. Teams compete in elimination rounds, a semi-final match, and championship game for cash prizes.

Prizes
Each member of the winning team receives $250, and the winning chapter receives $500. The second-place team receives $500 for their chapter.

How to Apply
To participate, a team must have its student chapter chair or faculty advisor complete and submit the official Materials Bowl application.

Deadline to apply is December 15, 2012.
Student Poster Contest
Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to enter the Student Poster Contest, sponsored by the five technical divisions of TMS and held each year at the TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition.

Prizes
Each of the technical divisions will award $500 to the best undergraduate poster and $500 to the best graduate poster. A top prize will be awarded by TMS for the "Best of Show" poster with $500 going to the overall best posters in the undergraduate and graduate divisions.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES
TMS2013 Materials Bowl - Sunday, March 3, 2013

Even if you aren’t competing in this materials-themed quiz-show competition, you’re welcome to attend the elimination rounds or the final championship round. Play along to test your materials science and engineering knowledge or cheer on your favorite school. See the ‘Student Competitions’ section of this site for details on how to join the competition.
Student Mixer - Sunday, March 3, 2013

This informal social event allows students to interact with each other and with professional members in a relaxed—and fun—setting. Refreshments are provided. Dancing is optional.
Student Poster Contest - Monday, March 4, 2013 through Tuesday, March 5, 2013

Browse the student poster displays at your leisure or attend the official contest judging session to ask questions of the contest participants or to answer questions about your own work.
Career Forum - Tuesday, March 5, 2013

Organized by the TMS Young Leader Committee, this session will feature speakers from various stages of their careers and diverse materials science backgrounds to discuss how to navigate a successful career path in materials.
