TMS 2011: Continuing Education:
Biomimetic Materials Workshop
February 27 - March 3, 2011 • San Diego, California
The workshop is designed for researchers and engineers from multidisciplinary areas who are interested in natureinspired
innovations. Download the course flier (PDF).
Overview
Most biological (natural) materials are composites with sophisticated microstructure and remarkable properties, which have risen from hundreds of millions years of evolution. The distinguishing characteristics, such as self-assembly, structural hierarchy, multi-functionality, and environmental adaptability, have continued to inspire scientists and engineers in the design of novel materials with superior properties.
Biomimetic material is a new and growing field in materials research and has attracted increasing attention in recent years. This interdisciplinary workshop will offer the opportunity to present and discuss the latest studies and achievement in this area. This event will be held in the world famous San Diego Zoo with exciting animal encounters and behind the scene tour.
Topics Include:
- Structural biological materials
- Functional biological materials
- Bio-inspired synthetic materials
- Molecular-based biomimetics
- Novel biomimetic innovations
- Animal encounters and behind the scene tours
