Aluminum and Magnesium
The
TMS Annual Meeting is the "home" for the light metals community. This year’s
symposia will continue to cover all aspects of aluminum and magnesium production
and use, from primary production and downstream processing, to application of
alloys. This program brings together representatives from the world’s largest
light metals companies and research organizations to discuss the latest
developments in the field.

Advanced Characterization and Modeling
The TMS Annual Meeting has increasingly become the programming venue of choice for topics that address characterization and modeling from both the computational and experimental perspectives. Ten symposia are planned in areas covering computational materials science and engineering and advanced characterization. Systems over a range of length scales will be discussed. Programming also features an honorary symposium for Vasek Vitek.

High Performance Structural Materials
TMS fosters the development of structural materials technologies through forums at the Annual Meeting. This year’s program recognizes the aerospace focus of our Seattle venue by including symposia on a number of high performance materials technologies. One feature is the 11th MPMD Global Innovations Symposium on shaping and forming of aerospace materials.

Materials and Society Programming in Materials and Society continues to expand for the TMS 2010 Annual Meeting. A strong emphasis will be on energy, with symposia addressing alternative and renewable energy technologies, sustainable production and recycling, and efficient energy utilization forming the core. Carbon management and nuclear power technologies and policy aspects will also be addressed. As the first society in the materials field to establish a Materials and Society programming theme, TMS continues to lead in this vital area.

Nanoscale and Amorphous Materials
Recurring symposia in nanomaterials, ultrafine grained materials, bulk metallic glasses, and nanomechanical behavior have established the TMS Annual Meeting as the focal conference for addressing the nexus of research and applications in these areas. These programming themes plus other new symposia promise to make the 2010 meeting a strong one.
