Recipient: 2000 Bruce Chalmers Award



The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society's Bruce Chalmers Award was established in 1989 by the Materials Processing & Manufacturing Division of TMS and is named for Bruce Chalmers, widely acknowledged as the father of modern solidification science. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of solidification science.

Angus Hellawell

Citation: "For outstanding contributions to the understanding of grain refinement, eutectic modification, and macro-segregation."

Biography: Angus Hellawell is professor emeritus at Michigan Technological University.

Dr. Hellawell earned his B.A. in chemistry in 1953 and his D.Phil. in 1956 in Physical Sciences, both from Oxford University. He taught at Oxford University and the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Recently, Dr. Hellawell has contributed to developments in image analysis at Michigan Technological University.

He has published work in numerous journals, including Proceedings of the Royal Society and Scientific American.
