Michael J. Nicol

Lecture Title: "Hydrometallurgy: The Crossroads of Science and Engineering"

Biography: Michael J. Nicol is a Mintek research professor in the School of Process and Materials Engineering at the University of Witwatersrand. He earned his B.S. in chemistry and his Ph.D. in physical chemistry at the University of Witwatersrand in 1961 and 1965, respectively. Before joining the University of Witwatersrand, Dr. Nicol served on the Council for Mineral Technology (Mintek) for 23 years, where he held numerous positions, including chief director and consultant.

He is the author or coauthor of 91 technical papers and served on the editorial board of Hydrometallurgy for five years. He has received recognition by Mintek and the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy for his technical papers.
