Biography: Amit Chatterjee is senior technical advisor for the Tata Iron and Steel Company in Jamsehdpur, India. He earned his B.Sc. in metallurgical engineering in 1966 from Banaras Hindu University; his D.Sc. in engineering in 1988 from the University of London; and his Ph.D. in process metallurgy in 1970 from the University of London. Between 1977 and 1982 he served as joint director, director, and assistant director of R&D for Tata Steel. After leaving the company to serve as managing director for Ipitata Sponge Iron Ltd., he returned to Tata Steel in 1987, where he has been senior technical advisor since 1993. He has published or presented more than 375 papers and edited six books. He has received the National Metallurgist Award by the government of India as well as several other awards and has been elected fellow of three organizations. |
