Advances in the established field of materials processing will receive extensive coverage at the TMS 2009 Annual Meeting. Ten symposia are planned on topics related to materials processing, and additional special events and networking sessions will provide ample opportunity to network with colleagues and meet other experts in the field.

- Applicable Computing Technologies in Heat Treating
This symposium will cover various technologies including numerical simulation, computation, residual stress analysis, material property prediction, process optimization and physical modeling. [MORE]

Learn about the fundamentals and current status of friction stir welding and solid-state friction stir processing of materials. [MORE]
- Frontiers in Solidification Science III
Hear presentations on the fundamental aspects of solidification and the microstructural dynamics associated with liquid-solid phase transformations. [MORE]
- General Abstracts: Extraction and Processing Division
Hear presentations on topics ranging from modeling to environmental technologies. [MORE]
- General Abstracts: Materials Processing and Manufacturing Division
This symposium includes a wealth of presentations related to computational materials science and engineering, nanomechanical materials behavior, phase transformation, powder materials, modeling, shaping and forming, and surface engineering. [MORE]
- Materials Issues in Additive Powder-Based Manufacturing Processes
This symposium will address topics such as powder-based freeform processes, powder-based direct write technologies, powder spray technologies, powder-based cladding and coating, and powder-based repair and re-engineering. [MORE]
- Materials Processing Fundamentals
Attendees will learn about the fundamentals, synthesis, analysis, design, monitoring and control of metals, materials, and metallurgical processes and phenomena. [MORE]
- Peirce-Smith Converting Centennial Symposium
This symposium will cover a broad range of topics related to copper and nickel converting including historical perspectives and updates on current operations. [MORE]
- Shape Casting: Third International Symposium
Updates will be presented on research and development in the design and production of high quality castings, including gating system design, process modeling, mechanical behavior and structure-process-property relationships. [MORE]
